A men’s crew neck is the simplest piece to buy badly and the easiest to buy well if you go by the fibre: pure cashmere and lambswool from the Scottish mills, Italian merino, and the heavier ribbed knits of the 80s and 90s. Every jumper is checked in daylight for moth, holes and pilling, cuffs and hems for stretch, and what we find goes into the listing rather than out of the photo. Sizes are given as the label says and as we measure them flat, pit to pit and length, because a 1988 “M” is cut shorter and narrower than a modern one. There is one of each. Wear them over a button-up shirt; see all menswear for jackets and jeans.
