Tank tops and vests do the work in summer and under everything else in winter. We look for the Y2K ribbed cotton that still has its snap, silk and satin camisoles with intact straps and lace, and logo vests from the labels that defined the early 2000s. Elastic is the first thing to go on a vest, so we test the stretch and the recovery, check every strap and seam, and photograph the piece flat and worn. Sizes are listed as the label says and as we measure them, and because most of these are stretch fabrics we give the unstretched pit-to-pit so you can compare with one you own. There is one of each. Layer them with a cardigan or an oversized shirt; for shorter cuts see crop tops.
