Vintage sweatshirts and hoodies earn their place by fabric: heavyweight loop-back cotton from the 90s, college and sports crews from the years the labels were still made in Europe and the US, and Y2K velour zip-ups with the original hardware. We check cuffs and hems for stretch, prints and embroidery for cracking and lifting, zips for their pull, and we wash everything before it is photographed. Sizes are listed as the label says and as we measure them flat, pit to pit and length, because a 90s men’s “M” is a generous women’s oversized fit and a Y2K women’s “M” is not. There is one of each. Wear them over a tank top or with wide-leg jeans; for knitted layers see jumpers.
