About brand

Miss Sixty came out of Italy in 1991 and was one of the names of the low-rise decade: the tiny rise, the flared or bootcut leg, and lettered sizes on the shirts and jackets we have handled. Most of what we see is 1999 to 2006, the years the brand had its own UK shops and department-store concessions. On resale sites the name gets typed Miss 60, or shortened to M60; it is the same label.

If you are buying jeans, read our Miss Sixty sizing guide first; it was written from pairs measured on this table.

How the sizes run

The label is a starting point and nothing more.

Our W28 bootcut pair measured 15.5 inches across the flat waist, 31 round, on an 8.5 inch front rise, and wears as a UK 8. A second W28, a pair of custom flares since sold, measured 16 inches flat, 32 round, on a 6 inch rise. So the same tag came out an inch apart round the waist, and both pairs still landed on a UK 8.

Lengths move too. Our bootcut pair has a 27.5 inch inseam, shortened years ago for someone five foot six; the flares ran 31.

Trust the inseam over the L on the tag.

Our S denim shirt measured 18 inches flat across the bust, 36 round, and fits a UK 6 to 8. The L cropped jacket, 19.5 flat and 39 round, sits oversized on a UK 8 and suits up to a UK 16.

What to check on a second-hand piece

Our off-white pair has lime green thread and embroidered back pockets, and embroidery frays first. Denim on a low rise wears through at the crotch seam and where a bootcut hem drags, so ask for a photo of both.

On the denim jackets and shirts, check cuffs, collar points and the placket edge for whitening, and count the beads and rhinestones on anything customised. Our embroidered jacket has a raw hem; the listing says so.

What UK size is a Miss Sixty W28? Both W28 pairs we have measured came out as a UK 8, at 15.5 and 16 inches across the flat waist. Check the flat waist in the listing.

Do Miss Sixty lettered sizes run small? They do, on our table. The shirt labelled S stops at a UK 8 and the jacket labelled L at a UK 16.

What happened to Miss Sixty? Nothing final: the label still trades, and new pairs on its own site run about £180 to £230. What ended was the UK high street presence it had in the low rise years, so the 1999 to 2006 pieces now come through resale.

Is Miss Sixty high end? Premium denim of its day rather than a luxury label. Second hand the range is wide, roughly £20 to £125 depending on cut and condition.

Is Miss Sixty vintage? The brand is still going, so vintage here means the Y2K run, 1999 to 2006, which is twenty years old now and what the word points at on resale. Everything we list is second hand, measured and dated in the listing.
