True Religion started in Los Angeles in 2002 and built its name on one detail: the horseshoe stitched across the back pockets in contrast thread. Big T and Super T are the brand's extra-thick versions of that stitch, sold as named variants. The fits carry first names, and the ones that come through the shop are Julie, Stella, Billy and Joey. What reaches us is the low-rise era, and the Julie and the Billy in stock now are both made in the USA.

How the sizes run
By US waist, cut slim, and the tape usually comes out above the label. Our Julie W23 measured 12 inches across the waist, 24 round, rise 7.5, inseam 29.5, a UK 4 to 6 on our chart. The Stella W26 measured 13 inches across, 26 round, rise 7, inseam 27, a UK 8. And the men's Billy W33 came out at 18 inches across, 36 round, rise 9, inseam 33.
So between the label and the tape we have seen anything from nothing to 3 inches. The rise is the number to watch: 7 to 7.5 inches on the women's cuts is true low rise, and the Billy's 9 sits well above that. Prices so far have sat between £38 and £65.
Do True Religion jeans stretch? The Stella does, the denim has give and the skinny cut moves; the Billy has none, 100% cotton.
What to check on a second-hand pair
Start at the back pockets.
The two horseshoes should match in shape and sit at the same height, the thread even and without loose ends. On the Billy the hardware is heavy and branded. Then turn the pair inside out. On the pairs we have handled, the inside label reads like a ticket: the cut under Section, the waist under Row, the inseam under Seat; later pairs drop Row. Look for the country of manufacture and a care label. US-market pairs also carry an RN number, and its absence is not a warning sign.
Wear shows where the cut puts it. On a skinny, look at the inner thighs, the knees and the waistband, which stretch out on the softer denim; our Stella has some stretching and faded marks, all photographed. On the Billy the wear is mostly to the leather-look flaps, and a 33 inch inseam stacks on the shoe, so check the hems.
How do you tell real True Religion jeans from fake ones? The shape and symmetry of the horseshoe, the rivet count, the buttons and the inside labels are checked on every pair before it is listed, and the photos are taken so you can check them too.
Are your True Religion jeans men's or women's? The Billy is a men's W33 and fits a women's UK 14 to 16 too.
