Coast dresses measured by hand: 3 pieces (2 in stock), UK 8–12, from £15, one of each.
Coast opened in 1996 as the British occasion-wear shop: prom dresses, bridesmaid colours, structured bodices, and in the 2000s the dresses were made in pure silk where today's version uses polyester. The company went into administration in 2020 and the name now lives online, so a silk Coast dress with a woven label is from the good years.
Is Coast true to size? The sizing is UK and honest, but the boned bodices do not stretch. Measure your bust and waist and compare with the flat numbers we list; the size guide shows how we take them.
What do you check on a Coast silk dress? Composition label, the zip, boning channels and any marks under the arms. We photograph the inside too.

Does Coast run small or true to size? On the 2 Coast pieces labelled UK 12 that we measured, the bust was 39″ round (the UK standard for that label is about 37″). That is close to the UK standard for the label.
“Our UK estimate” is the size on each piece's own listing, tried on our model (5′6″, UK 8). Jeans sit on the hips, so a waistband measures more than the natural waist it is made for: about 3″ more on a low rise, 2″ on a mid rise, 1″ on a high rise, the same rule Will it fit? uses. Shorts are left out of the inseam column.
